Attention Waterfront Property Owners

We have learned that local jurisdictions will be updating their Shoreline Master Plan and Codes in 2011/2012. Some local jurisdictions have been updating their codes for the last couple of years. We have been told to expect additional limitations and restrictions on dock construction, starting with permits issued in 2012.

Federal Nationwide Permits for simple dock repair and maintenance will expire in April 2012. Prior to this date, the federal agencies, along with the US Army CORPS of Engineers, are expected to make changes to these Nationwide Permits. These changes may affect what repair and maintenance work you can perform on your dock, as well as what conservation measurements and mitigation may be required as part of the repair work.

In addition, we're aware that the federal agencies want to limit the length and size of docks.

You may want to consider starting your dock permit process now, even if you don't plan to build a new or updated dock for 2-3 years.

Applying for your permits now, before the new limitations go into effect, will allow you to construct one of the last large docks on Lake Washington to create real value for your property.
